Holiday Happenings

I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't tickled to death with the idea of having to work July 4th weekend and holiday.  I was rather bummed about it, but it turned out to be not so bad after all.  Sunday, Mom had a cook-out/pool party at her house and Monday we drove down to meet the in-laws for a picnic and great fireworks show.

For those of you that read my recent "spunky" post will enjoy knowing that Grandma and Grandpa made it to Mom's party.  I was delighted to see Grandma doing so well after a recent major surgery.  This picture is the cutest ever and really captures them well together.

Eden and Isla enjoyed swimming while they waited on Mommy to arrive after work...

And of course Grandy gave them good snacks.  They LOVE watermelon...

The food was excellent and the company was even better.  I know Christian was thankful for the helpers that assisted in swimming with two little ones until I arrived!  The girls were worn completely out when we got home that night!

The fireworks show was great and one of the longest I've seen.  We had great seats at the park thanks to the good selection by the in-laws.  I teased MIL that she was "satan's helper", bringing Little Caesar's pizza and YUMMY homemade brownies!  lol (Christian and I are trying hard to be healthy and shed some pounds!)  Don't think for one minute that telling her or myself that the food was sinful held me back! I still managed to treat myself to three breadsticks and a large brownie!

Eden, Joliann, and Jack Ryan enjoyed catching lightning bugs.

Apparently, Eden wanted to take every lightning bug in the park home with her...note empty water bottle in her hand.  It contained about 10 unlucky lightning bugs.  We did cut holes in the bottle, at least.  lol

We all set up to watch the show...

I wasn't the only one that had to work yesterday.  Uncle Aaron doesn't always look this way! lol

Once the fireworks began, Isla abandoned all ideas of sitting anywhere except in Mommy's lap.  Actually, instead of sitting, it was more like leaching herself onto me.

This is what she looked like during the fireworks...refusing to even open her eyes, Mommy had to hold her tight and hold her ears as well.

I think she went to sleep out of pure coping mechanism, as I don't know how anyone could have possibly slept with them going off.  Poor boo - NOT a fan of the fireworks.  Better luck next year

The only other eventful thing that happened was poor Isla got her first bandaid.  She fell (running full speed, of course) on the concrete at the park and skinned her knee and elbow.  She let out a little squeal, but really didn't cry.  Mommy was still ready with her first bandaids, as the elbow especially bled a bit.  I wish I'd gotten pictures of her with them on.  Brave girl was more excited about having the colorful bandaids and despite it all, she didn't slow down any.

A wonderful time was had over the weekend and work didn't ruin it!  I have so much to be thankful for that I can't complain about working.  :0)
