Can't imagine a single breath of life without these people in this picture with me. We all grow up with a sense of family of one kind or another and having the opportunity, the blessing to be able to have a family of my own is so huge. I was first blessed to have found such a wonderful man to stand by my side. :0)
We began dating in December 2000. The Bush/Gore election had just taken place, and I won't lie...his Republican status gave him some points. LOL! Some of our first conversations were about politics, as we met online and spoke via AOL Instant Messenger Chat before meeting in person and started dating in December. At that time, internet dating was still rather taboo and I didn't let my family in on our face-to-face meeting until after it had gone smoothly. The Tracey (my mom) in me did make sure that my buddy and college roommate at the time knew where I was going and who I was with. :) I even called her mid date, I believe to let her know I was alive and safe! Ha! Though we'd had many conversations and chats via online and over the phone, some of the first words he said to me were "I think I'm going to throw up". We were both so nervous. Looking back, I suppose it was because we both felt like we were already in love. There was a lot riding on whether we'd feel that "click" or chemistry in person...no pun intended! :) God had a plan and there was a spark for sure! We ate at the Olive Garden and saw "What Women Want" with Mel Gibson. That should have been a red flag for Christian, but thankfully for me, he stuck it out!
On only our 3rd date he joined me for a family get together at Grandma and Grandpa's house, perhaps for Uncle Moe's birthday or some of our annual after Christmas gatherings that we generally do. Hard to imagine that the girls (Alex and Hannah) were only in the 5th grade! He's been around 10 years! Some of the things I fell in love with all that time ago (seems like a lifetime already!) are some of the things I still love about him today.
He has one of the kindest and gentlest spirits I've ever known. He genuinely never wants or intends to hurt anyone. He has a sort of calming effect on me, the way he's very patient and self-controlled. Very much the opposite of me, as you can imagine sometimes. He's not easily rattled or angered and that's a quality I've always respected. Because we fell in love at such a young age and found each other, it's been a blessing to see him grow in so many ways as well. His sense of humor and easy going attitude are some of the things that keep me grounded. It's been a joy to watch him learn to be an amazing father too. He's the best Daddy to our beautiful little princesses! Christian and I have been blessed beyond measure with our two girls.
Even though we didn't find out the gender either time I was pregnant, I can't imagine now having boys. :0) It's so much fun to watch them grow and develop little personalities. We often wonder what we've done to deserve such an honor as to be their Mommy and Daddy. The Lord has given us so much! All we can do is try our best to allow them to be their very best. It's been such a fun journey thus far and I wouldn't change any little pebble or stumbling block along the way. After all, there are no mistakes in life...just lessons. I pray we learn today what we didn't know tomorrow. If you know better, you do better. May tomorrow be even better than today. Just the prospect of that makes me smile, as these three people have blessed my life immensely.
I love you, Christian, Eden, and Isla.
