Wow...this could have been a lot of people. My mom inspires me to be positive and Christ-like...oh and safe. :) I guess my point is so many people inspire me. Hard to pick just one. I've been keeping my eye on the list, looking for what's upcoming and trying to think on this. It's been a busy couple of days with Isla having an ear infection and an appointment with Endocrinology as well as a few job interviews and Eden's turn for snack helper this week thrown into the mix.
OK ok, back to my inspiring person...
This is none other than the beautiful Nancy Jennings. She's pictured here to the left with her husband Don in "Catlanta". She's one of my dearest friends! She is a mom to Henry (King Cavalier Spaniel) and Molly (feline), Wife to Don, and rockin' RN. She's been in the OB/GYN Nursing arena for too many years to count, but enough to say "been there done that" for sure. It's her specialty and she's darn good at it! She's a no nonsense kind of gal. One of those people that tells it like it is. Amazingly, she finds a way to tell you like it is from her heart. That's the thing about Nancy, she has a huge heart. That's what makes her a wonderful nurse, awesome teacher, and I'm sure what made her an excellent foster Mom.
Though OB/GYN and nursing fall on the top "loves" list in her life, other favorite things include Kentucky Wildcats, scrapbooking, Bluegrass music, GiGi's Cupcakes, her iphone, and Owl watching. Well, I think that's what you call it. ;)
Nancy is one of those people that has never met a stranger. Though I'm not sure she ranks with my grandmother in the "talking to hood ornaments" (per my grandfather lol), she can talk to almost anyone about almost anything. That's partially because she's friendly and kind hearted, but much because she's also very intelligent. I'd be lying if I said I'd never heard an unkind word about her. That, I think she'll take as a compliment though, when I'm finished. You see, if someone doesn't like Nancy, it's usually because they don't want to do the right thing or they don't want to hear the right thing. One of the things I can only imagine her husband loves about her, she's always right. LOL No really, she is. And on that occasion when she may have been slightly mistaken or misinformed (no, seriously), she's quick to admit it! Before you go thinking she's snotty or pretentious, she'll readily admit when she just doesn't know what to do or what the right thing is. That's when her heaven-sent listening skills come into play. While intently listening, she uses her master multi-tasking skills and usually has a plan of action formed by the time you've finished your monologue. If she doesn't know what to do, she'll morph into a Inspector Gadget-like character and become a world of resources for you. Like I said, remember? BIG HEART.
The word no doesn't really exist in Nancy's vocabulary. She can do anything she sets her mind to and she will. She has, in fact. Whether it be purchasing that new iphone or landing the job of her dreams, she'll achieve it. To say she's a determined individual would be putting it mildly. She sets out to do something and it's going to get done. Not only is she going to get it done, but it's going to be done right.
So as if just being Nancy and doing the things Nancy does on a daily basis isn't inspiring enough, she generally inspires me to DO. She inspires me to BE, LIVE, LAUGH, HAVE FUN, BE KIND. She's just the friend you need, the friend you always wanted because she says just what you needed to hear, just when you needed to hear it! She's a big ol' heart, I tell ya. If you're not friends with her, you want to be friends with her. She just exudes fun energy! (No, Mom she won't come over for dinner tonight! lol) I love her dearly and cannot imagine where I'd be without her in my life. That sounds so super dramatic, but...well I am dramatic, so what?! And plus, she was one of my first friends at UK and basically encouraged me and coached me (possibly even landed me) into the job in OB/GYN. Even after I quit OB/GYN to pursue a long-time dream of teaching, she hired me back! Through all the things we don't have in common, we seem to find some common grounds of humor and love of life. I truly owe her one, or two.
This blog's for you, Nance. My big-hearted, fun-loving, spitfire of a friend! I couldn't do without you!
